This Asset Management firm which serves as one of NYC’s leading financial services powerhouses is currently seeking a SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to support its investment research, due diligence and portfolio analytics processes.

About the SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) Vacancy:

They are moving off an MSP for DBA work.

So you will be the sole DBA, but probably only have a DBA workload for 50-60% of your week because most of the database administrator tasks are automated.

As a result, you will also get the opportunity to work on Automation and even DevOps projects for the rest of your time.

This is the perfect role for someone with strong DBA skills who wants to get into more DevOps/Automation work.

It is a Greenfield environment where the application development team has been primarily focusing on designing and building the research and portfolio analysis platform from the ground up.

The qualified candidate will be capable of supporting trading, portfolio management, asset allocation, portfolio forecasting, performance analysis, exposure and liquidity management, risk analytics and reporting.

The current technology platform runs on Microsoft SQL Server 2016, C# .NET Development, Python and SharePoint.

You have excellent communication and prioritization skills; with an ability to interact and influence across teams and levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform SQL Server database level maintenance, optimization, failover, and performance monitoring.
  • Implement strategies and monitor backups of SQL databases; automate and perform database restores across environments.
  • Collaborate with application developers to monitor and optimize application performance from the database side.
  • Participate in DevOps initiatives.
  • Install, upgrade, maintain and configure SQL Server Suite (i.e. SSIS and SSRS services )
  • Design, implement and support ETL & Secure FTP process with external counterparts.
  • Work with vendors to support 3rd party portfolio accounting software (i.e. FIS Investran) upgrade, Microsoft SharePoint database high availability setup, and JAMS job scheduler.
  • Function as release manager to automate the release process TeamCity/Octopus.
  • Work on various development projects on C# platform.

Ideal Requirements for the SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) Vacancy:

  • Several years of hands-on database administration experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems or equivalent
  • Thorough understanding of SQL Server administration and monitoring; preferably utilizing RedGate suite of tools
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, creative thinker who can also pay attention to details.
  • Expertise in application development and infrastructure support for Microsoft SQL Server Suite 2016 or higher, SSIS and SSRS implementation, Microsoft SharePoint 2013/2019/Online.
  • Experience with DevOps automation processes and tools.
  • Expertise in Microsoft PowerShell.
  • Experience in designing, and administering Microsoft SQL Server multi-site database topology (e.g. cluster, mirroring, Always On Availability Groups).
  • Development experience utilizing C# is a plus.
  • Experience with SunGard Investran, TeamCity/Octopus and JAMS Job Scheduler a plus.
  • Experience with the development, project collaboration, and source control methodologies inherent within Azure DevOps platform.
  • Confidence to ask pertinent questions to grasp concepts quickly and think beyond specific tasks
  • Self-motivated and professional with the ability to work as an integral part of the exciting yet tight-knit development team.
