About SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) Role:

  • Maintaining on-premise and Azure SQL databases (upgrades, high availability backup administration, monitoring, optimizations of DB servers, optimizations of SQL/Procedures)
  • Working with Cloud Azure SQL Server, Data Lake, and related cloud data storage technologies
  • Working with and challenging developers, supporting the business to improve the use of SQL Server via better schemas, performant stored procedures/views/functions, etc
  • Interrogating data stores and schemas, investigating the results and providing solutions to improve performance
  • On-call support – once every 4 weeks (overnight and weekend only and related to Production issues only)

Ideal Requirements for the SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) Role:

  • Strong SQL DBA experience with both on-premises and Cloud
  • High Availability via Always-On and Basic Availability Groups
  • Backup/restore (DB/transaction logs)
  • PowerShell – DBA tools or SQL Server modules
  • Performance optimization
  • SQL Server Maintenance – Agent Jobs, Monitoring, etc
  • SQL server configuration
  • Partitioning
  • SQL snapshots
  • Change data capture
  • Understanding of SAN arrays – Nimble preferred, PURE or others also acceptable

You will also need to have:

  • A demonstrable passion for technology and the desire to turn your head to many different technical challenges
  • A good understanding of ITIL processes, in particular a structured approach to continuous improvement of the production environment
  • Collaborative approach to problem solving and a team attitude towards DevOps, Support, QA and Developer colleagues
  • A-Levels at grade A*/A/B (or international equivalent) and a minimum 2.1 degree obtained in Computer Science, or a related field, from a Russell Group University
