Branch/Area Supervision Manager – Wealth Management – Hybrid (Regular Travel across UK required)

Job Description:

The role’s primary responsibility is to supervise a group of the firm’s branches via the branch principals to ensure their policies & guidance, applicable UK law and regulation is adhered to. The role will include maintaining and improving the T&C Scheme and ensuring that appropriate records are kept. The role-holder will be expected to act largely on their own initiative and also take part or lead project work related to branches.

You will assist in the sign-off of new Independent Contracting and Professional Partner Branches and will be expected to develop a working relationship with the branch principal(s) as early as possible. You may sit on standing Committees relevant to branches to discuss and champion regulatory and commercial issues affecting branches.

Day to day you will be working closely with the Branch Principal(s), understanding their business model and providing guidance and direction to assist them in understanding and adhering to the regulatory parameters and needs of the company as well as assisting in branch development. You will have direct supervisory responsibility for the branch principal to ensure that they are meeting the supervisory responsibilities of all branch staff and activities.

You will need to ensure that they know where to access up-to-date compliance policies as well as meeting the required competence threshold. You will assist and guide through to the completion of any remedial and follow-up action as highlighted from the Compliance Branch Audits or input from other departments as well as ensuring any new relevant FSA initiatives are implemented and embedded within the Branch.

You will work closely with the company’s Business Development, Relationship Management and Business Support and Operations where issues and solutions will be discussed. You will provide material input where issues cannot be resolved and/or where you feel it is better for the branch relationship to be terminated.

The role is field based and regular visits to branch offices are expected. The holder will work from home but may be required to travel to Head Office from time to time.

REGULAR TRAVEL THROUGHOUT THE UK IS REQUIRED

Principle Duties:

  • Responsible for supervising Independent Contracting and Professional Partner registered investment advisers which are authorised with the FSA under the company’s authorisation
  • Responsible for the operation and development of the Company’s T&C Scheme and the maintenance of an appropriate record-keeping system
  • Input and advise in any decision to add a new Branch or FA as well as having powers to enforce disciplinary actions. Recommend termination of agreements in conjunction with CEO/Head of Compliance
  • Make regular visits to Branches to address T&C and business development issues as well as ensuring that Branches understand that while a branch may be independent in business style, structure and management, they must be UK law, FSA and company compliant
  • Work with Branch Principals to ensure they and their staff are meeting their required personal educational T&C thresholds and their branch level T&C responsibilities
  • Monitor professional qualifications to ensure all CF30 Authorised persons achieve and maintain minimum regulatory standards
  • Approve and supervise any increases in investment adviser/manager personal activities within a branch
  • Utilise output of compliance reports to oversee branch investment activities and processes, in particular identifying trends and addressing these to ensure the branch is compliant and meets legal and regulatory requirements, as well as the company’s policies and internal best practice standards
  • Thorough review of complaint logs and operational exception reports to ensure client service levels are being maintained and any issues addressed
  • Work with Branches and Compliance to resolve query/complaint issues
  • Escalate issues to Head of Compliance & Legal and work together to develop appropriate responses and resolutions
  • Facilitate cooperation and communication between branches and the sharing of best practice.
  • Work with Branch Auditor and help Branch Principal(s) with any remedial action arising from branch audits, setting standards, deadlines and working with branch following through to completion
  • Use internal/external resources to ensure the Branch is appropriately trained on any regulatory components
  • Assist in the establishment and maintenance of branch TCF policy
  • Represent branch interests at internal meetings
  • Maintain and develop own personal professional knowledge relevant to the role
  • Any other work as required to meet its company’s Independent Contracting network objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned

Specialist/Technical Knowledge/Qualifications:

  • Experience and knowledge of the following: UK Regulation for FSA authorised securities and financial planning firms including a good knowledge of the FSA Handbook and a good understanding of applicable laws for example, POCA and the DPA.
  • IMC, Securities Diploma or full FPC qualified or relevant practical experience
  • Working knowledge of retail Investment Management firms
  • Commercial experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of Word and Excel
